An Identity
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! As I raise my four children in this world that’s full of so many things demanding their attention and focus, I realize now more than ever how important “identity protection” is for their faith. Between media messages, the consumption of “stuff,” athletic accomplishments, the praise of others and more, I want my children to find their identity in God and embrace the truth that they are a new creation in Him - not in the who the world tells them they should be. And I am also not immune to this struggle. I know that I was created in God’s image and uniquely gifted to serve Him through art, and I know that He assigns me to be His daughter. But that doesn’t mean that I don’t find myself become distracted from that role by social media, the praise of others, pursuit of more, or in how my family views me. We are assaulted daily by the media and the ways of the world and must continually shift our view to align with who He created us to be. We are who God says we are and not what the world or our wandering hearts wish try to lead us into. As this year comes to a close, my prayer is that you would activate your most assured identity protection – the Word of God – to firmly plant yourselves in the soil He has already cultivated for you. In Him, you are a new creation with a pure identity in Christ.
